Use Frames to Focus the View
Some folks like the feeling which a B&W photo offers for their Save the Date card.
This couple used a nice B&W photo where their attention to each other was the center of subject of the photo. Also they wanted the photo in a black frame which had an outside white frame for the card. The double framing really focuses the view.
Also, the use of a couple's names overlayed on a large soft "&" background has become quite popular on many designs. Another popular design attribute has been placing a return address up the center of the card on the back.
