Good Sporting Event Photo for Save the Date

Maybe you got engaged at your favorite sporting event and had a good photo taken at the event that you want to use on your Save the Date.

Will that might have been what happened with this couple.

The sign above them in the photo just did not have what they wanted in it.
So we worked on it for them and changed the sign to say "Save the Date" as you can see.

Custom Save the Date with Fall Leaves Background

Here is a save the date card in which the couple wanted to use multiple photos on the front. Also, they wanted the photos overlaid on a background of fall colored leaves.

With this composition one photo was considered the main photo so it is larger, and the other two are slightly overlapping to make them as large as possible. Also we needed a title for the front to be put on the fall leaves background. The fall leaves background used a crystallizing filter to soften the image.

By using the multiple photos they communicated additional depth to their feelings for each other.

The backside of this Save the Date offers details on their plans and covers two locations and schedules for their ceremonies.

Use Frames to Focus the View

Some folks like the feeling which a B&W photo offers for their Save the Date card.

This couple used a nice B&W photo where their attention to each other was the center of subject of the photo. Also they wanted the photo in a black frame which had an outside white frame for the card. The double framing really focuses the view.

Fitting the Photo to fill the front

After showing photos which could not cropped to fill the front, I thought it would be a good idea to show an example of what we need to do to fill the front.

To make a photo fill the front of a postcard, we need to extend the photo a little on each edge beyond where we will cut out the card. So it is best to have a photo in which the subjects are not real close to the edge.

This above picture shows how the photo is extended beyond the cut line. The cut line is the inside box represented by the small grey line.

The final picture below shows the card front after being cut.

Some photos do not leave room for cropping

Sometimes the right photo is a closeup of the happy couple to be married. The photo does not really leave any room to crop without cutting into the subjects of the photo. So it cannot be cropped to fit the shape of a postcard. In this case the best way to fit the photo is in a frame which can be filled with what ever color one wants. The frame fill can then make a nice place to put text on the front of the card to accompany the photo.
